In the second instalment of this series of Short Story Masterclass podcasts, Jac Cattaneo talks with acclaimed author Tessa Hadley about the differences between writing short stories and novels, the intuitive engineering of stories, starting points and the power of speech.

Tessa AUTHOR_tessa-hadleyHadley is the author of two short story collections, Sunstroke and Other Stories, shortlisted for The Story Award in the US, and Married Love, which was longlisted for the Frank O’Connor Award. She has published five novels, including Accidents in the Home, longlisted for the Guardian First Book award, and The Master Bedroom and The London Train, both longlisted for the Orange Prize. Hadley’s short stories have regularly appeared in The New Yorker, as well as the Guardian and Granta. She is Professor of Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.
